In the past few years, I have questioned extensively the ways I was brought up with. This has resulted in a gradual shift to a fruit and vegetable-based diet. I would classify myself as a pesco-vegeterian (fish-eater). My reasons for leading this diet are the health benefits, more efficient use of land, and spiritual reasons.

The benefits of a vegetarian diet are lower levels of cholesterol and fat, leading to a lower risk of heart disease and cancer. Never before has mankind had a diet so rich in animal fats, which may indeed account partly for obesity and hypertension.

From a resource-perspective, it is much more efficient to eat fruits and vegetables than meat die to the energy required to turn grains into meat. The same amount of land required to feed one cow can feed many people.

As I have learned from Buddhist teachings, when we eat an animal that has been killed, we also bring in the pain that animal felt during death. It's like volunteering to receive negative Karma.

A vegetarian diet produces a healthy body and more relaxed mind. Evolve and go vegetarian!
